What is rUNdead Charleston?
The 2016 rUNdead Charleston is more than just a zombie race (where runners wear flag belts and course zombies try to steal them). Our meal starts at 11am with The Appetizer, a 5k dedicated to runners and zombies ages 13-17. Once they're digested, we'll move to the main event, The Main Course, at 1pm featuring the delectable flavorings of runners and zombies ages 18+. Don’t want to risk infection or digestion? The Quarantine Area is back by popular demand for risk free entertainment. Free entry into the Quarantine Area gives you access to games and vendors, with food and beer available for purchase from food trucks. In addition to our regular Quarantine Area we’ve added a huge KidZ Quarantine with specific attention paid to the smaller of our broods. There's something for every member of your family, so bring them all and include some friends! In addition to being a food drive for The Lowcountry Food Bank, we are raising money for Lowcountry Helping Hands, an organization aiming to make significant impacts in individual lives.
Will it be scary?
Zombies are the theme but not all zombies are here to scare the wits out of you. This is not a Halloween event, although all are encouraged to come dressed to kill. There will be costume contests in a wide variety of categories, so even a peaceful princess might win a prize.
What about safety?
We have prided ourselves on the level of “humanity” exhibited between our zombies and human runners. Course zombies are given plenty of instructions prior to and day on how to handle their desires for flesh and brains (flag belts).
What will be at the KidZ Quarantine?
There will be several organizations present who are child/youth focused. Their staff will assist your children with any and all of the activities, such as tumbling/gymnastics, block building, jump castles, bubble soccer, zombie tag, Nerf gun wars and much more. We will have a wristband system for you and your children to make sure if you leave them in that area to run or be a zombie they will be returned to you and you alone. Waivers, of course, must be signed.
Note that for every Main Course registration as a runner or zombie, you will receive one entry for a child into the KidZ Quarantine.
When do we get race bags?
There will be packets for zombies and runners upon check-in. Bibs and chips will be given then as well.
What are the details for the Zombie Assimilation Station (ZAS)?
Teen course zombies for The Appetizer must arrive in costume but can put the finishing touches on themselves on site. Main course zombies who prepaid for (ZAS) services need to arrive before 12 Noon to get in the que. If spots are still available, others who did not pre-purchase ZAS can get in queue. After all Main Course zombies have left for the course, ZAS will accept anyone to zombifie for a recommended $5 donation.
